Kempes Says Hi! 8/2013
So can anyone think about Argentina'78, and not think Kempes? I remember we used to have a customer who looked so much like Kempes, my mom nicknamed him Kempes. Well our customer told us that his name was Mario Alberto, yes, as in Kempes. His mom was a die-hard Kempes fan in her native El Salvador, and when baby-naming came around, there was no better choice! Aside from his local look-a-like, I never imagined ever being any closer to Kempes than my family room where I watch his commentaries on TV. Until the day he called us! Yes, live on the phone, it was Mario Alberto Kempes. You see it all started with Javier's decision to make a Jersey with Kempes in gold letters (not 14k - although that would make for a jersey!). It was on display at the store, but ultimately he wanted to craft a way to send it to Kempes. So in Sacramento, Javi befriended a genuine classic kind of guy, Ruben, who happens to work for a prominent local soccer show. Javi shared with Ruben his desire to send off the shirt, and Ruben made it happen. iQue grande sos, Ruben! Mission completed! Ring, ring said the spy phone...it was Kempes' assistant on the phone to say thanks, and then yes, the star himself, Mario Alberto Kempes. WOW! iQue buen tipo - super nice without any pretentions! Needless to say, a little teary-eyed with emotion, Javi managed to stutter thanks, and some more casual conversation. And that wasn't all, a package in the mail with a few photos of Kempes and the shirt. What a compliment that such a legend would take the time to call us, and make a little corner like ours an even happier one. iGracias por su nobleza!

Our very own Javi takes 2nd place at the Haggin Oaks Footgolf Tournament! 7/2013
I absolutely know that any sport Javi touches becomes a charm for him, so it's no surprise 2nd place went to him at the recent footgolf tournament in Sacramento at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course. We're so proud of him, and the Bay Area brothers that took first and third, Felipe and Sebastian Cabrera, respectively. Javier's first tournament was in Oxnard, where we loaded the kids, the balls, argyle gear galore, and the mate for an exciting weekend getaway. The kids practiced with Javier on Saturday while I enjoyed the gorgeous weather and great staff at the River Ridge Golf Course. On Sunday, I took the kids to the beach while Javier played the tournament...after a champagne kick off toast. Not a bad way to start a tournament, wouldn't you say? We had pretty much the same routine in Sacramento with the difference that we commuted from home with Las Vegas footgolfers, Pablo and Chari - a dynamic couple that are spearheading the fall Vegas tournament. Did I mention Pablo won hole in one in Oxnard, and Chari, first place for the ladies? Go champs! We're so excited to be part of this dynamic new community, and hope for a local field soon. With German on our side, you know San Francisco will be the classy, sassy league to follow!
